Ultimate Final Decision Prom of Destiny
A downloadable LARP
Graduation approaches for the students of Tokyo Mahou Shoujo Academy. The top six girls in the class will each form their own magical girl teams out of the lower-performing students and go out into the world to battle evil. Before doing that, they will attend the Ultimate Final Decision Prom of Destiny where they will each choose a mascot for their team from this year's Mt. Fuji Mascot Academy graduates.
The students at the two academies have been segregated from one another and from the rest of the world and have not met before this point. The magical girls and mascots will dance nine dances with one another in their civilian identities, transform, dance nine dances as their magical identities, and battle alongside one another. Finally, the magical girls will make their choice of which mascot they believe is their Victorious Partnership. Those who choose correctly will triumph over the forces of darkness. Those who choose incorrectly, however...
tl;dr: live your anime dreams while reliving your awkward high school prom
Good for players who: love magical girl animes, like social logic puzzles, want to have lots of feelings, love costuming
Bad for players who: can't handle awkward prom dancing either physically or emotionally, will hyperfocus on the logic puzzle while ignoring feelings, hate anime tropes
Run Time: roughtly 4 hours but can vary
Players: 12 players, 2 NPCs
Suggested player experience level: Beginner to expert
Ultimate Final Decision Prom of Destiny is an anime LARP about dancing and trying to find your Victorious Partnership. Don't expect significant subversion of tropes here; this LARP is about reveling in tropes. (Though there is a lot more queerness than you might expect to find in classic anime.) It's about being as campy and dramatic and sincere and silly and tragic as anime is. While dancing and having over-the-top anime battles. Some pairings will be romantic and others will be platonic.
Players should expect to have two outfits - one civilian and one magical - and to perform a 90-second-long magical transformation sequence to their theme song.
For those who have played One Dance, One End, there are broad similarities in structure but many of the details you are used to, including the mechanics behind battling, will be different.
Running Requirements
To run this LARP you will need enough space for six couples to dance simultaneously with a pair of chairs for the NPCs at the head of the room and a snack table and conductor table somewhere in the room. You will need a sound system good enough that the music for various events is audible.
You will want holders for the provided printable nametags. It is not strictly necessary to have wands, gauntlets, and so forth, but it is helpful.
In a pinch, the LARP facilitator (referred to in game materials as the conductor) duties can be split among the two NPCs, avoiding the need for a separate facilitator.
Music, genre consulting, and translation provided by Autumn (akinokaze on social media).
